The New Vineyard Historical Society was organized by Al Turgeon in 1992 to collect and preserve the history and artifacts of the town and is located at 20 Lake St. There are many genealogy books New Vineyard’s families including Captain Daggett, as well as an extensive scrapbook collection of Frankie Voter articles from the Franklin Journal where she was a journalist. A New Vineyard rocker is also on display.
The first white settlers arrived in 1791 from Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts and the settlement finally adopted the name New Vineyard in 1802. The "New Vineyard, Maine 1802-2002 – ITS SETTLEMENT, ITS PEOPLE, ITS HISTORY” documents the town's history, and “A Brief History of Porter Lake” which is a comprehensive study of the lake’s history.
